FRT – A Godot “platform” targeting single-board computers
- panpanna 7y agoThis seems to add support for the raspberry pi (and similar) to the Godot game engine. Technically rpi mostly runs Linux and Godot already has full Linux support. I don't understand his description but I think he uses opengl without X for best performance on these low end devices.
- TimMurnaghan 7y agoWe're still waiting for an explanation of what Godot is ...
- chenzhekl 7y agoThey might be referring to this free game engine: https://godotengine.org/ https://godotengine.org/
- panpanna 7y agoGodot is a multiplatform game engine, similar to unity but open source. It runs on Linux/win/osx and exports to win32, win uwp, iOS, Android and Linux. The best way to learn godot is to follow along a development tutorial on YouTube. I HIGHLY recommmend Angega's space shooter tutorial: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLv3l-oZCXaqkUEqrLsKJIAhAxK_Im6Qew https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLv3l-oZCXaqkUEqrLsKJIAh...
- geophertz 7y agoIt also has support of the web using wasm and html5, *BSD and Haiku. https://godotengine.org/features https://godotengine.org/features
- vanderZwan 7y agoI think people missed your joke (or maybe I mistakenly think you joke)
- track_me_now 7y agoIt depends if they meant GOD-oh (the play) or Go-DOT (the game engine). Hard to get the inferred pronunciation on HN...
- tangue 7y agoFor those who missed the joke ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waiting_for_Godot https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waiting_for_Godot
- badsectoracula 7y agoI've actually learned about the play because of all the references to it whenever this engine is mentioned :-P
- giancarlostoro 7y agoIf it wasnt a joke they uncovered two new things to learn. I didnt know about Waiting for Godot only the game engine.
- bborud 7y agoYou might want to avoid hosting files on Sourceforge since a lot of people tend to be wary of downloading anything from there.
- badsectoracula 7y agoSourceforge changed hands in 2016 and was bought by someone who wanted to clean it up, see https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/4n3e1s/the_state_of_sourceforge_since_its_acquisition_in/ https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/4n3e1s/the_state_... (2016) and https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17281879 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17281879 (2018). TBH personally as a user i prefer the Sourceforge UI to Github one since it is clearly user oriented. I wrote about it last year or so: https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/7p9prs/introducing_the_new_sourceforge_ui_and_github/dsg0cu0/ https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/7p9prs/introdu...
- petee 7y agoEh, they should have announced that a little more publicly, as their reputation is still garbage for most people...And they still have download buttons for ADs that are styled like the real download, so how would we know ::rolls eyes::
- bborud 7y agoI think I see your point. I actually like that Github tries to serve developers rather than trying to serve both developers and users. I generally like services that have a very clear focus and do not try to become everything to everyone. That being said, I don't think it would take much to add this to Github. In fact, I think it could probably be done in a few weekends with a third party application to automatically generate github pages with download buttons a(and historic binary versions). I didn't check. It might already exist.
- nrjames 7y agoI wonder if this is related: https://twitter.com/w84death/status/1152511872001892352?s=20 https://twitter.com/w84death/status/1152511872001892352?s=20
