Why is it a big deal? (beyond the debt IBM incurred) How is RHEL the "leading cloud OS" when the big clouds don't use it? Why does the OS matter at all in the cloud? Are you actually arguing that the Microsoft OS history will somehow repeat with IBM-Red Hat?
- the_trapper 7y agoWhat concerns me about the Red Hat acquisition is just how much of what we consider "Linux" is developed and controlled by Red Hat employees. Look at things like Gnome, PulseAudio, and systemd. Canonical and other Linux companies very rarely have this kind of impact across the entire ecosystem.
- merb 7y agoactually amazon linux is basically a CentOS fork.
- zubairq 7y agoYes, exactly that. IBM has the chance now to repeat history with the tables turned in IBMs favor
- cloudwalker 7y agoHow does that happen being "assume a miracle"?
