This is amusingly similar to the old chestnut "I have a rope of nonuniform thickness, and it will take one hour to burn its entire length. How can I measure half an hour?"
- Skeletor 7y agoBurn it at both ends?
- mrmonkeyman 7y agoNonuniform. One half could be 1mm the other 50mm.
- oh_sigh 7y agoThis is usually presented as having 2 ropes, not 1, and 45 minutes, not 30 minutes.

- Y_Y 7y agoI don't think this non-uniform, flammable rope would be allowed in the EU. Even then it's hardly the right tool for the job of measuring time.
- boomskats 7y agoYou mean, like those bananas?
- H8crilA 7y agoHey it's not just the EU that is strangely obsessed with bananas. It's a big deal m'kay, governments were toppled and CIA was involved: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1954_Guatemalan_coup_d'%C3%A9tat https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1954_Guatemalan_coup_d'%C3%A...
- dalore 7y agoBurn it at both ends at once?
- carapace 7y agoReminds me of this simple analog computing device: ^_^ https://www.exploratorium.edu/snacks/center-gravity https://www.exploratorium.edu/snacks/center-gravity > Here’s an easy way to find the center of gravity of a long, thin object, even if the object’s weight is unevenly distributed.
- CamperBob2 7y agoWeigh it?
