I’m french too, and i only started to understand what french cuisine was after visiting other countries. A simple lettuce salad with vinegar and mustard dressing, together with a rare steak and some french fries is something you won’t find in a lot of countries. Englishmen overcook the meat (which is always fatter than here) and always add sweet dressing, and the rest of the world makes the meat boil.
