I don't know how a handful of people carrying the banner of "geek culture" can make all culture suck by making lists of lists. I also don't know if we'll actually reap benefits from having culture-fallow years.
Should we be happy that everyone has access to our wonderful nerdy thought-caves? Instead of using geekdom as a refuge (from sports, girls and jobs) it is becoming mainstream! Our geeky curiosity is being celebrated! Now we can give comic books to our girlfriends, and they won't roll their eyes!
- sp332 16y agoThe fans of Real Housewives of Hoboken watch, discuss, and absorb their show the same way a geek watched Dark Shadows or obsessed over his eighth-level half-elf ranger character in Dungeons & Dragons. It’s the method of consumption, not what’s on the plate. This part is actually more exciting to me. If one group is passively absorbing TV "content", and the other group is actively remaking and remixing that content, it's going to be hard for those groups to relate to each other. But this might make the "geek"/"normal" division irrelevant and maybe people will relate to each other better.
