My grandmother received an antibiotic that made her virtually deaf (ototoxicity of an aminoglycoside).
- refurb 7y agoThat side effect is well known. Usually they won’t use those antibiotics unless hearing damage is less worse than not using them ((e.g. death).
- rscho 7y agoThose antibiotics are used routinely for specific indications (preop prevention, for instance). Professionals are well-aware of their downsides. Hearing damage generally stems from overdosing.
