No Way to Build an Operating System
- josefresco 18y agoAnother link-bait, trashy, speculative article 3 years too early trashing Microsoft and Windows 7. I'd expect this from some random blogger but not Jupiter Research. I'd rather them focus on trashing Vista than spreading this garbage. Did I mention Windows 7 is 3 years away?
- TrevorJ 18y agoIt all depends on your perspective. I found the article very interesting. Take it as what it is: anecdotal at best.
- hamsterboy 18y agoSo let me get this straight: WinFS never happened, and MS engineers drooled over spotlight, therefore multitouch won't kill Google. Like walking through NYC, and telling the guy picking cans out of the garbage that he'll never get the Mona Lisa into the Met that way.
- krschultz 18y agoI think the point he is trying to make is that Microsoft has failed to create anything innovative, or even follow through with their plans to implement things other people have done, and will be unable to compete with a company able to do both such as Google.
- DougBTX 18y agoThe article hinges strongly on this quote, which strikes me as wrong: Windows 7 will ship in 2009, almost certainly in time for holiday PCs. Microsoft disclosed today that there would be no major architectural changes from Vista, which would greatly reduce development complications. The author probably heard "Vista applications will be able to run on their original architecture" and reported it as "Windows 7 will have the same architecture as Vista." Noises coming from Microsoft suggest Windows 7 will support "legacy" applications using virtualization so that they can run in their native environments, specifically to set Windows 7 free to do things without the strain of backwards compatibility. Much like Apple when it released OS X. One thing to remember though, Windows 7 is just vapourware and a couple of videos so far.
