If the library is crucial to what you are making it is worthwhile to consider rolling your own. Not because it will be better but in the process you will understand the problem in a way that you otherwise cannot. Libraries also tend to be general purpose so up to half of the code in a library may not be pertinent to your usage. I wrote an app that used a lot of Oauth and ended up writing my own instead of using the excellent Passport library. It would have been easier to use that, but I gained an understanding of Oauth that I would not otherwise have, and my code is small, understandable and easy for me to maintain and modify. Just my 3 cents worth.
