Ask HN: Engineers in Tech, how do you vet jobs/companies?

What? I am doing customer development interviews to understand how engineers search for jobs and vet companies/offers. Why? I’ve had so many friends and family accept a job with a company because the interviews said one thing, and then when they get into the environment it is totally different. I am trying to dig at how we might be able to help illuminate more about what it is like to work somewhere before you even apply. The Ask? Any chance you would be interested in sparing 20 minutes to answer some questions and help me test some assumptions?
