It's one thing to show compassion and not be overly punitive on those suffering from mental illness or addiction.
It's another thing to throw up your hands and let unstable people cause chaos in your streets. That's not good for them or you.

- codr7 7y agoWe're getting the worst of both worlds by blaming mentally ill, poor or otherwise unwanted citizens for any problems caused while doing nothing to improve the situation. It's the oldest ruling-class distraction in the book, blame the crazy person. But it misses the point, which is figuring out what's pushing people over the edge and building a society that takes better care of everyone.
