I now use a dedicated Chrome profile for a handful of sites I trust like my banks and gmail. The profile has cookies and JavaScript disabled by default and I have to opt in to let each domain use them.
Then I do all other browsing on a Chrome Guest session. It's cut down my web usage a bit as I have to log in to sites like HN or LinkedIn, Facebook, in the guest session to use them.
