Try `ssh brow.sh` for a 5 minute demo (`ssh brow.sh -t https://maps.google.com` https://maps.google.com` is pretty cool too)
I really need to try out the experimental vim branch[2] to emulate Vimium/Tridactyl. Firefox rendered to a shell with Vim keybindings would be so amazing to use!

- snazz 7y agoIf you want to make brow.sh usable over a network connection, I would highly recommend using mosh. Also, a couple of relatively basic things don’t work, such as file uploads (somebody made an issue a while ago but there’s been no activity on it since November of last year).
- jakecopp 7y agoAgreed - Browsh over mosh on a cheap VPS is good fun! Also, some commands interfere with Tmux I think, such as closing tabs. I need to figure that one out!
- tombh 7y agoBrowsh author here. I feel so guilty about not having merged that branch :( It's been there 8 months or so. It's by far the most requested feature. I'm just so overwhelmed with other things to do. I'd love Browsh to be my main focus, but I've got to earn money. There's so many more things I want to do with Browsh. So basically I just wanted to say sorry to the people that have submitted code and not had it merged and sorry to the people that really want this feature, like a handful of blind users that keep emailing me about full keyboard support. I haven't forgotten about Brwowsh, I've just got to earn some money first.
- IggleSniggle 7y agoAre you willing to cede some control and let someone help you maintain it?
- tombh 7y agoFor sure. In fact there are already 4 people with commit permissions to the repo.
- zonidjan 7y agohttps://html.brow.sh/https://maps.google.com https://html.brow.sh/https://maps.google.com 301 -> https://html.brow.sh/ https://html.brow.sh/
- tombh 7y agoInteresting. And https://html.brow.sh/maps.google.com https://html.brow.sh/maps.google.com generates a timeout. The only thing I can think of is the filtering I had to setup after Browsh got blacklisted for rendering https://html.brow.sh/https://mail.google.com https://html.brow.sh/https://mail.google.com as it was seen as a phishing attempt. Now I 301 redirect all matches for `[mail|accounts].google.com`. If you install Browsh yourself you can customise the redirect filters however you want.
- nibalizer 7y agoOpen source maintainership can be an exercise in stress and guilt. You don't owe people anything and self-care is very important. Thanks for creating the project, and good job handing out some commit bits. Take care of yourself first, the code will come along eventually.
- jakecopp 7y agoNo need to feel guilty - thanks so much for your amazing work :) I also enjoy reading your blog - your article on China was eye opening.
- codedokode 7y agoIt doesn't make much sense to use terminal instead of normal GUI. Terminal has no advantages over normal GUI for displaying web pages.
- jakecopp 7y agoTry loading up 20 JS-heavy tabs in Firefox/Chrome and looking at your RAM/CPU/battery use :) Offloading that computation to a VPS somewhere with a fast internet pipe is attractive. Most webpages are mostly text, and terminals are great at text.
