Opting Out of Face Scanning at Hong Kong International Airport
- rado 7y ago"there's no reason airports need to know who you are" What?
- tem123223 7y agoYeah, this guy is paranoid. Saying that the customs officer at a international airport is akin to little brother to big brother... > A flicker of understanding appeared momently in Little Brother's eyes as he realized that reasons Big Brother had given him for these surveillance procedures were a lie. He didn’t need this machine to carry out his stated task. I am against facial recognition within the city, but at the airport, it is totally reasonable to have a record of who you are.
- larrysalibra 7y agoThanks for calling me paranoid! That's a compliment! Clarifying: my post was about the private security guard before security, not Hong Kong Immigration ("customs officer") which is after security.
- larrysalibra 7y agoThe airline "needs" to know who you are because they're trying to maintain their business model - capturing as much ticket value as possible - this would be impossible of airline tickets could be sold on a secondary market. Or they might have an obligation to a destination country to provide a passenger manifest. Immigration might need a record of who you are because they're presumably trying to enforce immigration controls. The airport doesn't need to know who you are. They are providing a building with some ancillary services like shopping and dining. If the airport needs to have a record of you being there. What's next? Does the train to the airport need a record? What about the taxi you took to get to the train station. What about the 3 block walk you took to get to the bus stop?
