Is there any language community with quite the reputation for unwelcoming unpleasantness, combined with the opposite - no counterbalancing reputation for welcoming friendliness? I entered the Common Lisp community 2.5 years ago and found nothing else than good, helpful, friendly people. Yes, they (we) don't tolerate stubborn stupidity, but if newcomers are truly interested they are treated very well.
