There has been considerable discussion in the Perl 6 community that they should have named it something else besides "Perl," like maybe "Rakudo." In many ways, it's not really a descendant of Perl 5 and prior versions. It's really an entirely different language. I wish they'd stop calling it Perl already. Perl 5 is still actively maintained and developed.
