Is Trump an outsider? He comes from a wealthy family, obtained an elite education, spent most of his adult life hobnobbing with powerful people in the nation’s wealthiest and most populous city, and was a fixture of celebrity and popular culture since the 1980s.
His only outsider bonafides are that he hadn’t been elected to political office before running. But he started with money, connections, and name recognition.

And for some reason the people who were upset at the globalists and elites and the failures of crony capitalism ate it up.
