Parenting, except in the case of unwanted pregnancies, is a hobby. Culturally it has a sort of special status but in the end it's another hobby that one decides to commit to. It's a choice made that this is going to be your mostly exlusive hobby for the next several years.
- meheleventyone 7y agoYou don’t think it’s important for society and the future economy?
- welly 7y agoI don't think the world is particularly short of people. We've got lots of people. Some might say "too many". I've chosen not to take up the hobby (as GP fairly described) but for every one of me, there are ten others who participate. Not everyone needs to bear children.
- meheleventyone 7y agoRight but we do actually need some people to have kids and a declining population is pretty bad for the way society is currently organized. It's great you've decided not to have kids but denigrating others choices to have them by calling it a hobby is not cool.
- Waterluvian 7y agoIt's less a hobby and more of a deeply ingrained evolutionary trait. I don't think people who lack the trait can ever grok what it feels like. For me it's up there with eating and breathing.
