Yes. I've had run my own site since 2000 ( https://www.lancesells.com https://www.lancesells.com ) moving it around multiple times. The only thing I've really changed is moving to a static site so there's one less thing to export or import(database).
Having my own website I've worked on keeping it speedy and not reliant on any javascript.
