Ask HN: In terms of R&D, English is, or seems to be, domineering
When it comes to languages being used to document one's research and development, English is, or seems to be, domineering. With this in mind, I'm worried other languages may become unused, and as a result, go extinct over a period of time. Your thoughts, please.
- Someone 7y agoGlobalization makes the world smaller and, hence, leaves room for fewer languages, but, IMO, the jury is still out on whether the end result will be a single language, and, if so, whether English will be the winner and not, for example, Chinese. There already are electronic devices whose datasheet is written in Chinese, for example.
