The Global Crisis in Conservatism
- patientplatypus 7y agoPlease post the full text of the article or refrain from posting pay walled content. Thank you.
- sorenn111 7y agoPaywalled articles are a frequent (and allowed) occurrence. Many times, a commenter will post a link to the full text via some means like outline.com The HN community has already answered this question.
- dang 7y agoIf there's a workaround, it's ok. Users usually post workarounds in the thread. This is in the FAQ at https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html and there's more explanation here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10178989 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10178989 https://hn.algolia.com/?sort=byDate&dateRange=all&type=comment&storyText=false&prefix&page=0&query=by:dang%20paywall https://hn.algolia.com/?sort=byDate&dateRange=all&type=comme...
- patientplatypus 7y agoIf you post a link to a pay walled article people will comment based on what they think the article is about rather than read it. You flagged my previous comment and it was deleted, but this post will not lead to a good discussion if we cannot actually read the argument that is being put forth.
- mikeash 7y agoLike it or not, paywalls are allowed here, and comments complaining about them are not.
- patientplatypus 7y agoAh, that is truly unfortunate.
- majormajor 7y agoI imagine people who can read the paywalled article (I cannot, for this particular one) have an interest in sharing and seeing the article regardless of the quality of the discussion in the comments here.
- azernik 7y agoIt's not paywalled, it's login-walled; make an account, and you get some free articles per month. Not great, but workable.
- dang 7y agoUsers flagged https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20358781 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20358781 because it was unsubstantive and broke the site guidelines. Speaking of which, would you mind reading them and following them when posting here? You've been breaking them a lot, unfortunately, that we eventually ban accounts that do that. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- rapsey 7y agoThe crisis is on both sides of the isle really.
- steve_musk 7y agoWhat do you mean? What do you think the crisis is?

- sweetcherrypie 7y agoTo circumvent the paywall, turn off JarJarscript. In the future, don't post paywalled content. https://outline.com/Jpwbzj https://outline.com/Jpwbzj
- patientplatypus 7y agoOh hey - figured out the paywall. Apparently this works with pretty much any news paywall which is pretty rad. https://outline.com/<URL https://outline.com/<URL of site> So in this case it would be: outline.com/https://www.economist.com/leaders/2019/07/04/the-global-crisis-in-conservatism https://www.economist.com/leaders/2019/07/04/the-global-cris... Fun challenge!
- mcantelon 7y agoThis article is pretty incoherent.
