I had bad experiences with roommates early on and swore off sharing a house with anyone when I was in my early 20s. This meant that often a big part of my income would just go to housing.
In a way, it helped since it pushed me to pick up side projects and learn new, marketable skills. But man, if I had access to a clean, affordable room + kitchen, I would have had a far happier and more social time in my 20s.
- tempguy9999 7y agoNever shared a room but problems with flatmates, I recall a few. One offering to stab you? Yup! Another nearly burning the place down by forgetting a chip pan? BTDT (and then he did that a 2nd time!). On a lesser scale people who don't seem to understand what washing up means, or that loud noises travel. It's not nice but - stabbies and fires aside, that was unusual - dealing with difficult people is part of life and you learn some useful skills. The other side is you do meet really, really good people. That IMO outweighs the bad.
