I hear the multi-cloud redundancy idea talked about a lot but I'd be curious to see data around how many people do this in practice.
- digitalsanctum 7y agoI think the number is much lower than people realize. There are a lot of multi-billion dollar companies that still operate in one region and don't have a solid disaster recover plan.
- was_boring 7y agoThere's a lot of multi billion dollar companies still coming to terms with one provider, let alone redundancy.
- richajak 7y agoI think the trend of software startup companies to use 3rd-party services to run their business is similar to the JIT (Just-In-Time) practice in manufacturing industry. When something happens in the supply chain, it will affect the whole ecosystem, too much dependency. How many of the startups still run their own servers? Standalone service without database PaaS? No external CDN Javascript libraries? :-)
