Being shouted at at work is in any way acceptable now? I never have been and would be completely shocked if anyone did shout at me during my job, no matter what I did. That’s completely unacceptable.

Why don't you find it acceptable? There are plenty of jobs where there is lots of shouting involved. - much of the military, football managers for example.
