It probably easiest to look for a phone that supports lineageos and install its fork, lineageos for microg on your phone.
That way you can continue to use apps like WhatsApp that require Google Play.
- snaky 7y agoLineage for MicroG also provides "F-Droid Privileged Extension", which allows F-Droid to install and update apps without the need of user interaction or the unsafe "Unknown sources" option. https://lineage.microg.org/#faq https://lineage.microg.org/#faq
- voltagex_ 7y agoAs of either Android 8 or 9, you can set F-Droid to be able to install apps - i.e. the "unknown sources" option is scoped.
- zaarn 7y agoIt still requires user confirmation before install, autonomous updates are still not possible.
- richardwhiuk 7y agoBecause F-Droid is a paradigm of how to run a good app store.
- Drdrdrq 7y agoI can't tell - is this sarcasm? If yes, what is wrong with it?
- thekyle 7y agoLast I checked WhatsApp worked fine without Google Play Services.
