Since 1970, air travel has increased by a factor of 7, while fatalities have decreased by >80%. Combine these figures and you get a safety improvement by a factor of about 70. We are clearly doing something right, and automated systems replacing error-prone humans may well be a part of it. I don’t quite get HN’s infatuation with the mythical perfect pilot.
