Whatever your feelings are on Assange, this is a horribly-written piece that doesn’t talk about torture even tangentially. I hope this fellow isn’t the UN’s best and brightest.

- k1m 7y agoMelzer visited Assange and has given interviews numerous times before this piece. Here's what the UN human rights site had to say: > Melzer was accompanied during his prison visit on 9 May by two medical experts specialised in examining potential victims of torture and other ill-treatment. > The team were able to speak with Assange in confidence and to conduct a thorough medical assessment. > “It was obvious that Mr. Assange’s health has been seriously affected by the extremely hostile and arbitrary environment he has been exposed to for many years,” the expert said. “Most importantly, in addition to physical ailments, Mr. Assange showed all symptoms typical for prolonged exposure to psychological torture, including extreme stress, chronic anxiety and intense psychological trauma. > “The evidence is overwhelming and clear,” the expert said. “Mr. Assange has been deliberately exposed, for a period of several years, to progressively severe forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, the cumulative effects of which can only be described as psychological torture. https://www.ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/Pages/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=24665&LangID=E https://www.ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/Pages/DisplayNews.aspx?N...
- DyslexicAtheist 7y agounless you disagree that psychological torture constitutes a form of torture this article goes into the reasons in length. the crime he seems to be guilty in the eye of the public is not having committed suicide yet, which is the obvious goal of those who engage in character assassination. You can also check Jacob Appelbaum who was once a close ally and privacy activist who has been demolished brutally by a mob of SJW's on twitter and then IRL. I literally watched the site appear and one prepared post after another smear him in similar ways as they did to Assange (with Jacob one "witness" mentions sexual abuse simply because he pulled a girl into a bathtub which sat on the edge while he took a bath ...) With Assange it's ruptured condoms, cat-torture and poop on the walls[1]. I hear Ola Bini[2] is having a tough time too ... I bet it's just coincidence /s [1] this is a common form of dissent among prisoners as last form of protest and also common in mentally ill convicts or in elderly facilities and I'd be very very surprised if Assange would know about it or be the type to display such out of character behavior. This smells more like something dreamed up by a person who was asked to come up with soundbites for the media that are both dehumanizing and plausible to his critics. see also https://www.ncjrs.gov/App/Publications/abstract.aspx?ID=67743 https://www.ncjrs.gov/App/Publications/abstract.aspx?ID=6774... and https://seanhillenblog.com/2016/09/26/shit-smeared-walls-and-degrading-bum-searches/ https://seanhillenblog.com/2016/09/26/shit-smeared-walls-and... ... poo also acts as a deterant against those who might rape you (you could argue that smelling like a homeless can give you a strange survival advantage for the conditions you find yourself in). All in all not something I'd expect a guest of the embassy to do but totally something they come up with for an effective smear campaign.
