Thanks for the input! Finding a more concise alternative to base-64 encoding is currently an item in TODO. I've also been thinking about other forms of compression. Regarding your last point, my plan is to have the main page (index.html on the site) always decode from pure base-64 but to eventually have other "publish" targets or endpoints (e.g. /b65536/index.html#asdf) that decode in different ways. I can then add corresponding "publish" buttons to the editor
