It doesn't really compare. HotQueue is just a queue. Celery is full-blown task queue (with periodic tasks, task retries, monitoring, etc) that supports multiple backends (AMPQ, Redis, SQL databases) and even integrates nicely with existing python web frameworks (Django, Flask).
