I’m a prototypical Apple fanboy, who thinks most of the criticism directed at Apple on HN is silly. Yet I completely agree with the OpenID Foundation here. If I had to guess, the criticism here comes from the same strain of criticism of the GPL that has been growing over the past years. The tech community has grown a lot, and has attracted a lot of people mostly interested in money. Ideas such as open standards or non-commercial collaboration have lost some appeal.
