Right now, these are the top posts on voat:
- A post about Vimeos removal of the Google/Veritas Video
- A Post that criticized that r/the_donald removed 83000 posts in the last month (implying that relative to voat, T_D is too heavily censored)
- A Post about Eric Schmidts visit to a Hillary Clinton Rally during the last election where he wore a Staff Badge
- A Post about the recent murder of a German politician that was most likely murdered because of his anti-German remarks in the past
- An anti-jewish gif in /funny
- An informative post about a high number of NYPT suicides
- A post about Mexican Migrants
- A post about Muslims faking to be American Cops
Followed by some making fun of reddit and AOC, pointing out double standards of Israel vs US walls, cop power abuse, complaining about a low sentence for a child rapist, A post about Merkels Health status etc etc.
I think adults can stomach that, and from time to time learn something new.
- Aromasin 7y agoMy issue was never with the content on the front page. I don't use it enough to judge how much of its feed is quality or otherwise, so I'm not qualified enough to have an opinion on that. However, having looked through the comments again just now it still is clearly a place for people with ideologies that shouldn't exist in a modern society to circle-jerk each other - and almost everyone replying with a contrary opinion is down-voted to hell but not debated in the slightest. Just personally insulted. I see more genuine debate on the Reddit's default sub-reddits for Christ's sake. I'm literally reading through a comment chain now of people agreeing with each other that Jewish people should be banned from working in the US government, and shipped to Israel regardless of their nationality. There's another that is calling for a crusade against all Middle Eastern countries. It's baffling. Hell, in the UK and many places in Europe they'd be fined or arrested for hate speech. If this were public discourse, and not just inside this bubble, the people saying these things would have their ideas ripped apart - because people realise that a modern society can not function with mentally deluded people calling for the culling of a demographic just for existing. It's not about stomaching contrary opinions or learning something new. There are plenty of quality places to do that, and places for civil debate both on and off the internet. Voat is not one of those places.
