I think it's more that the original source is preferred, out of respect to the producer of that content, rather than a "reblog" that doesn't add much substantive new info. BoingBoing is great, and plays an important role, but that role seems mostly to surface stories from elsewhere, highlight the key points and add its own editorial take, rather than generating original content.
