This wasn't really a acquisition though. More like Apple buying some assets as Drive.ai gets liquidated.

  That distinction is mostly not real. Startups that are losing altitude start looking for an acquirer no less than 6 months before they know they’re done. The very likely ran the gamut of every acquirer they could get connected to. The case where companies run into the wall at full speed (a funding round fell through) mostly were very mismanaged.
