- jstarfish 7y agoThere have also been cases of people getting murdered while trying to reclaim their lost/stolen iPhones.
- benatkin 7y agoIt isn't surprising. I think loss aversion kicks in here. The phone they stole doesn't rightfully belong to them, but they possessed it, so to lose it, not only does the total worth of their possessions decrease, they also have to deal with the blow of a loss, psychologically. So their anger is in full force and they're willing to go beyond how far they usually go, which is pretty far, given that they're stealing iPhones. Here's a story I found. I remember reading it. Tragic. :( https://www.theverge.com/2015/6/18/8809741/teenager-murdered-tracking-lost-smartphone https://www.theverge.com/2015/6/18/8809741/teenager-murdered...
- mullen 7y agoGuns were involved, that is why OJ went to jail. If OJ walked in to the room without guns or "muscle", saw his stuff, then walked out and called the police, he would have been okay.
- ghostbrainalpha 7y agoI'm in Las Vegas and followed it fairly closely because I have friends in the DA's office. It was even worse than that, OJ is truly beyond redemption. Every effort has been made to protect him from the system and his brain just can't process decisions correctly. I'd bet everything I own that his autopsy will show serious CTE issues, and that he will be back in prison within the year.
- logfromblammo 7y agoExcept he also would not have recovered his stuff, because the police would not actually do anything to help. You're basically on your own regarding the security of your possessions. Lock your doors; don't leave valuables unattended. Insure whatever you can't afford to lose.
