What incentive do I have to write and publish a book (at least a man-year of effort) when someone expending 1% of the effort gets to reap most of the financial reward for it? Even if the quality of the counterfeit (not sure why you used scare quotes) is fine and you save a few dollars, in the following years you'll find fewer and fewer new books you care to by because few people are writing them.
