Indeed I remember this noise as well. My experience has been that this loud, aggressive, often insensitive minority drowned out thoughtful, reasonable, well-informed Trump voters, especially in the American South, where I ran into them every night at campfires and watering holes. The narrative that all Trump voters are part of a troglodytic, unsophisticated, callous constituency, failed by the American educational system, is pervasive throughout major media and, as far as I can tell, not a significant explainer of the results of the 2016 election. Make no mistake: I think Trump is a total, umitigated disaster, but I think that his supporters are far more reasonable than is typically depicted.
