Autodiff only works because analytical calculus can prove that differentiation is a functor over functions.

- eli_gottlieb 7y agoWell technically, over differentiable functions, but yes. Derivatives can be evaluated by decomposing functions, taking elementary derivatives, and recomposing the functions, in a way that integrals can't be.
