The web link no longer is effective for me, for NYTimes articles. Neither is any other thing I used to do, like visiting in FireFix focus.
Every day there seems to be several NYTimes articles on the front page of HN.
Am I missing how to access them, or does everyone somehow have a subscription, or is this astroturfing, or are lots of people upvoting something without reading it?
- jasonhansel 7y agoI suspect that a number of people (myself included) have a subscription. But using the "web" link to perform a search can often bypass paywalls.
- Wowfunhappy 7y agoWith all possible respect, I am frequently left wondering how most of Hacker News expects journalists to survive. Everyone seems to view both ads and paywalls with disdain. Well, you need to have at least one or the other, unless the publication is able to sustain themselves on donations. The one other possibility is sponsored content, which degrades journalistic integrity. (I recognize it’s incorrect to see HN—or any community—as a hivemind, but the attitude I describe certainly exists among a substantial portion of users here.)
