Doesn't Captain America specifically question the authority and morality of the state, and their own Avengers initiative? Doesn't Tony Stark dismantle his father's arms company? I wouldn't say the military industrial complex is just presented as some kind of unwaveringly benevolent entity.
- writepub 7y agoThat's our perception as Americans. I wonder if the Chinese consider the occasional bad apples weaved into an otherwise savior narrative of the emphatically American superheros any differently than the economist views their heros. After all, he's Captain America perennially wrapped in red, white and blue. How'd you interpret a captain China wrapped in the communist party red, replete with the sickle, backed by the might of the People's army, saving the world from tyranny?

- krapp 7y agoThe movies seem to do well in China. Endgame well enough to break box office records there, and according to this site at least[0] the other Captain America movies didn't exactly bomb. That would seem to suggest (albeit anecdotally) that there isn't a widespread mistrust or distate for Captain America as a character in China.
