I have seen similar problems right after using GMail or watching YouTube videos. Firefox would keep CPU busy even if I closed those tabs. I stopped watching YouTube on Firefox because of this.
This is on macOS.
- WalterSear 7y agoMe too.
- dralley 7y ago> YouTube and Gmail There's a common element here and I'm trying to put my finger on it. It rhymes with Scroogle. Why is it that the only websites I have issues with (Firefox user) are Google properties?
- babuskov 7y agoTo be honest, I'm not using that many websites. Maybe 20-30 in total. It is possible that other sites have similar problems, but I noticed with Gmail and YouTube because I use those two a lot. Or maybe, unlike the rest of the sites, Google engineers don't bother to test stuff on Firefox?
- WalterSear 7y agoGmail is definitely a problem site for me, but it's not just google sites.
- Scrantonicity 7y agoI also started seeing much slower performance in Google Maps and street view in the last few weeks.
- boybd 7y agoIf you close the tabs and Firefox keeps using CPU, how's that Google's fault? Or are you suggesting that Google is exploiting some bug in Firefox to have it use CPU time even when the tab is closed?
- Yoric 7y agoNot saying that this is the case, but if Google properties use ServiceWorker, this could happen. Google properties have a history of having suboptimal code served to Firefox.
