Shipping is both the cheapest and most carbon-efficient method of cargo transportation [1]. They do let out an awful lot of Sulphur though. Which causes a lot of premature deaths. However, from next year an annex [2] to the MARPOL Convention is coming into effect which hopefully will lead to a huge reduction.
