I find the complete opposite, the less magic I have to deal with the happier I am, because it means maybe I can fix things when it doesn't do what I want it to

  Yes, magic is a dirty word in my book. Give me bog-standard, boring, predictable systems all day long. There's still a kind of joy in being able to do the job well and efficiently, and it's easier to do the job well when you aren't spending your time scattering chickenblood and eye of newt around, muttering cryptic incantations.
