To my mind the problem isn't so much having Either as using it as Result - which I agree was unfortunate. In the same way that fst and snd don't tell me much about a tuple. At least there's a pun (right vs. left, right vs. wrong), which is probably why the pattern stuck, but I don't think that's actually sufficient justification.
