Well nature did this to me and the committment to accelerated operation of a wounded laboratory (before it could have been lost altogether) yielded better progress IMHO on the same scientific instrumentation compared to leading PhDs in my field. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone seeking commercialization because of accompanying roadblocks due to the systematic financial pressure against individuals coming from survival conditions. But it is good knowing what this gear can really do.
