Is it swimming or flying in a denser medium?
- lostmyoldone 7y agoIn this instance it seems to carried by buoyancy to a reasonable degree, I would say swimming. If you look at the other video linked, the one with a partially waterlogged bird, it almost stops looking like swimming as it floats quite high in the water. Looks more like rowing with terribly awkward oars.
- EForEndeavour 7y agoTechnically, I'd say it's flying if the main upward force is lift, and swimming if the main upward force is buoyancy. And while it's often pointed out that sharks have negative buoyancy and have to sink or swim, they're only slightly denser than water, and some species are positively buoyant: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/06/150619103518.htm https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/06/150619103518.h...

- CydeWeys 7y agoSwimming is the word for anything that "flies" through the water. Fish are much more graceful at this than eagles.
