The US going to war with Iran is John Bolton's wet dream.
- codr7 7y agoJohn Bolton should do the world a favor and strap himself onto one of Musk's rockets if you ask me, I wouldn't mind if it explodes either just to make sure. This imperialist crap is getting soo old, we're all in the same stupid canoe and its about time we started acting like it.
- SantalBlush 7y agoMy hope is that ordinary citizens across the globe will become more connected via the internet, and as a result, will develop a strong distaste for war in general.
- codr7 7y agoAnd here we are :) Ordinary (?) citizens, connecting over the internet to share our distaste for war and hope for a better future.
- SantalBlush 7y agoHN isn't very representative of the general population, but this is a good start. I'm thinking along the lines of someone in Wisconsin chatting about fishing with someone from Indonesia via an online forum, for example. That kind of thing could really help dissolve blind nationalism.
- svachalek 7y agoThat was the idea 20 years ago. Now search engines, social networks, and national firewalls are more effective propaganda machines than television ever was because they're individually targeted. It's going to take a new generation of people who are not just ready to swallow anything they read in their newsfeed.
- ajmurmann 7y agoEven from an imperialist point of view makes no sense to me. It would be a huge distraction from actual threats to US imperialism, Russia and China. Sitting presidents are more likely to stay in office during wars though.
- sittingPres 7y agoOddly, I think Trump is ready to throw the next election, and could take it or leave it. It seems likely that he's deeply motivated to eschew war, especially considering the perspective that he avoided military service via bone spurs or "feet" or whatever it was. I don't think he fancies the martial aspect of the oval office. It's really weird when you think about it from that angle. He probably doesn't want war, but branches of the pentagon, advisors and DoD/spook corporations are trying to crack open the gates. He probably would happily lose the re-election, but his idiotic NASCAR-watching political base is going to rail against opposing candidates and shoe horn him back into a second term. I don't sympathize, but I really do think Trump is probably over it, in a "been there, done that" sense.
- jules-jules 7y agoIt makes sense if you consider the interests of some of the other Middle Eastern nations the US is friends with. Remember the US doesn’t act alone.
