Would love to see more tech / entrepreneurial stories. It does seem there are a lot of political/privacy/bigcorp posts compared to back in the day (2009).
Edit: perfect example currently on the front page - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20179511 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20179511
How is this related to tech or entrepreneurship?
- dang 7y agoPlease read the site guidelines. The first paragraph explains that HN is not just for tech and entrepreneurship ("includes more than hacking and startups"). https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html Re that example, it wasn't a great HN submission because it stokes indignation without teaching us anything new. Indignation is always good for upvotes, but it didn't last long on the front page.
- davidjnelson 7y agoThanks Daniel! The site guidelines are great. I have read them previously but it seems I had forgotten the details of the relevant section: “On-Topic: Anything that good hackers would find interesting. That includes more than hacking and startups. If you had to reduce it to a sentence, the answer might be: anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity. Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.”
