I'd like to propose IPv7. Exactly like IPv4, but 48 bit addresses and must accept IPv4 traffic and treat addresses as beginning with 0's for first two octets. Y

  That's more or less what the article says in its first section. Then it goes on to tell why that didn't happen. In short, it isn't that simple.
