- js2 7y agoI don't see a reference to it at that link but it's because audio equipment manufacturer McIntosh Labs had the trademark: https://www.mcintoshlabs.com/ https://www.mcintoshlabs.com/ Edited to add from wikipedia: “Apple Inc. employee Jef Raskin named the Macintosh line of personal computers after the McIntosh. He deliberately misspelled the name to avoid conflict with the hi-fi equipment manufacturer McIntosh Laboratory. Apple's attempt in 1982 to trademark the name Macintosh was nevertheless denied due to the phonetic similarity between Apple's product and the name of the hi-fi manufacturer. Apple licensed the rights to the name in 1983, and bought the trademark in 1986.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McIntosh_(apple)#Cultural_significance https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McIntosh_(apple)#Cultural_sign...
- core-questions 7y agoI just lost ten minutes to drooling over the absurdly over-the-top McIntosh Reference System. Now I need to win the lottery.
- brokenmachine 7y agoHow much does it cost? Unsurprisingly the price doesn't seem to be listed on their site.
- js2 7y agoIt was ~ $200k in 2006. https://www.cnet.com/pictures/mcintosh-reference-system-the-worlds-best-stereo/7/ https://www.cnet.com/pictures/mcintosh-reference-system-the-... https://www.audioholics.com/trade-shows/2006-consumer-electronics-show-ces/mcintosh-xrt2k-loudspeaker-system https://www.audioholics.com/trade-shows/2006-consumer-electr...
