- ficklepickle 7y agoNo, it can't. But sometimes too much pain relief isn't a good thing. Your body adjusts to no pain, and it becomes difficult to discontinue to drug. Pain is an important signal and, in general, should only be treated enough to take the edge off. Ideally, the root cause should be addressed. Of course, there are plenty of chronic and terminal conditions where opiates are appropriate.
