I have several ZFS Servers in my Homelab, using both consumers and gasp referb drives.... I do not have a higher drive failure rate in my homelab than the enterprise gear I manage daily at the end of the day the mechanical parts between the drives are very similar, the biggest difference if the firmware loads on the different types of drives.
